Community Bands

"A Place for All Ages to Thrive"

Ben Carey

Our Community Band runs on Monday nights from 8pm - 9pm and is suitable for ages 14 through to Adults!

Our Community Band are a place for varying experience levels and different musical backgrounds to enjoy playing music together. Musicians learn a whole different skillset through playing with others that they normally wouldn't be able to hone in individual lessons or by playing solo. Playing music with others is also a whole lot of fun and incredibly rewarding!

Being in a band has multiple benefits such as, learning to collaborate, keep in time, developing your ear and understanding the importance of instrumental space in music. Being a member of the SLVA Community Bands will expand your musical repertoire and provide you with the opportunity to play music you normally wouldn't be able to.

The class decides the songs that they would all enjoy playing and are always keeping an eye out for new songs that will challenge them. The class will also allow for performance opportunities at local venues and at our end of year concerts.

Students will learn:

  • How to play and keep in time with others.
  • How to play different styles of music.
  • The role of your instrument in a band setting.
  • Collaborative skills.
  • Performing Skills.
